Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
The Bosch PR20EVSK Colt Variable Speed Router with Edge Guide is a versatile tool that's ideal for performing custom carpentry, trimming laminate flooring or deck planks, mortising hinges, dovetailing, and a host of other at-home and professional jobs. This router packs big power in a small, compact package for extended comfort and maximum accuracy.

The PR20EVSK Colt Variable Speed Router with Edge Guide offers:
  • Highest horsepower rating in its class.
  • Variable speed of 16,000 to 35,000 RPM
  • Constant-Response Circuitry to maintain speed under load.

Includes router, guide, case, base, collets, and shaft wrenches. .
Rubber over-molded grip allows for stable, one-handed operation. .
Powerful Motor, Variable Speed, and Depth Adjustment for Precise ResultsThe PR20EVSK owes its robust performance to a 1.0-horsepower (the highest rating for small routers), 5.6-amp motor that spins at a variable speed of 16,000 to 35,000 RPM and has a soft-start that reduces startup torque. Additionally, depth adjustment is simple with the PR20EVSK: just align and lower the motor and then lock the router in position with the clamping level. Micro-fine adjustments are equally effortless thanks to the wheel on the back of the router's base.
To help you match the correct speed to the job, the included instruction manual features a chart showing the speed of each dial position, along with a list of the routing tasks that each setting may be used for.
User-Friendly Features for Flexibility, Comfort, and ReliabilityThis user-friendly tool offers simple, straightforward operation. First, the collect accepts standard 1/4-inch bits to give you job flexibility, with an impressive maximum diameter of 1-5/16 inch.

  • For added convenience, a front spindle lock on the motor means easy, one-wrench bit changes, but a shaft wrench is also included for those who prefer to use two wrenches.
In addition, the speed dial is conveniently mounted on top of the tool body for easy access. An added bonus, the motor housing has a palm-shaped, rubber over-molded grip that allows for stable, one-handed operation. Finally, weighing about three pounds, the PR20EVSK offers a surprisingly rugged aluminum fixed base that's durable, solid, and reliable.
Constant Response Circuitry for Stable Motor SpeedThis model includes Bosch's "Constant Response" circuitry, which monitors and maintains speed under load for consistent performance and overload protection. Constant Response works by detecting tough loads and then increasing power to maintain the selected RPM. Working with stable speed lets you concentrate on controlling the router, so you'll always make clean, burn-free cuts.
Additionally, a quick-clamp system allows the motor to be easily adjusted and moved from base to base. For further convenience, an angled cord exit keeps the router's cord safely out of your work area.
    The PR20EVSK comes with a one-year warranty.

If you’ve ever wished for a smaller router that still had the power and accuracy of the standard models, Bosch made this for you.
This little Colt is little only in size. It’s 5.6 amp motor gives you all the power and speed of a big bruiser, with a variable speed of 16,000 to 35,000 rpm. Weighing in at just a hair over 3 pounds, it feels like a feather, so one-handed control is absolutely perfect. Bosch’s soft grip design is intuitive, and whether your hands are big or small, it fits just right, giving you complete control. Don’t worry about torque at startup, either, because the soft-start feature cushions it beautifully. The base has indentations that Bosch calls "finger support pockets," and they really do lend a great deal of control.
The collect accepts standard ¼-inch bits, so you’re virtually unlimited in the bit department, with a surprising maximum diameter of 1-5/16 inches. There’s a spindle lock on the front, so changing the bit out is a simple one-wrench operation. The speed dial is mounted on top of the tool body, and while some would prefer it closer to the grip, we don’t see a problem, since you’re gripping the tool with just one hand anyway.
Depth adjustment is among the easiest we’ve seen on a router. Just turn the motor till the triangle and "unlocked" symbol align, lower the motor to desired position, turn the motor so the triangle lines up with the "locked" symbol and close the clamping lever. If fine adjustment is necessary, it’s a breeze, courtesy of a wheel on the back of the base. Done.
We can think of hundreds of uses for this little workhorse, but those who’ve previously been intimidated by routers will absolutely love it, because it performs like a full-size router, yet it’s a fraction of the size and weight. It would be perfect for rounding-over deck planks and railings, hinge mortising, making decorative edges on hobby wood, and furniture, cutting slots, for use with a dovetail jig, making window cutouts, decorative inlays, trimming laminate and more. Pros, do-it-yourselfers and hobby woodworkers will all wonder how they got along without this little tool. -- Kris Jensen-Van Heste

    Customer Reviews

I already own three other "full size" routers so this little router is quite a pleasant surprise to use. It is light weight and very solid; hinge-mortising, edge-triming, and rounding-over are a breeze. I also bought the round subbase so that it can be used with my Porter-Cable templet guide set and it works out quite nicely. So why is only 3-stars? As mentioned by other reviewers, the "Shaft-Locking Button" does not hold and needs to be redesigned. It was the most frustrated thing that I ever dealed with; installing bit is no problem but removing bit was an entirely different story. The button just would not lock tight enough and kept slipping! After sore thumbs and bruised knuckles, I saw in the manual (page 7) suggesting to use a "thin" 10mm wrench as an alternative to the shaft locking button . Out of frustration I took one 10mm wrench from my inexpensive wrench set, grinded it a bit thinner so that it would fit on the flats of the spindle. Now I can easily install or remove bits using two wrenches. BOSCH either needs to redesign the shaft locking button or supply an additional $2.00 wrench!

I have been using my new Colt router for a month now and it is a wonderful addition to my shop. I have a large bench mounted router, but this tool is now being used more often than the more powerful cousin. It is so easy to route edges, especailly for rounding over or using the flush cut router bit. Put the box or other item you want to rout on a pad made for holding the work and just cut away. The Colt is very easy to control.
Making hinge morteses is a snap because the router doesn't grab or try to move off track. You can use the edge guide to help you make the mortese straight. All of the cutting so far has been in red oak and oak vineer plywood. It performs well in both.
The bits are easy to change, and the depth is easy to set. A well thought out tool and well worth the price. I use it all the time in my shop now. I wouldn't be without it.
