Customer Reviews
First - this is not a Kreg top of the line table, don't expect it to be!
Quick story - good table, sets up easily, works ok, If you do a lot of router work, get a better table.
Long story - I needed a router table to trim the tongues of Pergo flooring that was so horribly formed it could not be beat into place with a hammer.
Did some looking, I didn't want to spend major bucks, and I needed something compact because I don't see needing the table again in the near future, and its gotta be stored someplace - with room being a bit on the shy side.
Table set up well. My top was adequately flat, slightly wavy to the tune of a hairline of light coming under my straight edge at a few places. Its laminate after all... how flat can that be?
Fence was even on both sides, and the right angle was close enough to spot-on that it didn't make a difference.
Router - a DeWalt 616, mounted easily. I had to use the Dewalt screws, as the provided screws were too long. The table came with all sort of screws to mount all sorts of routers. The mounting template has lots of holes to suit many routers.
I used some Harbor Freight featherboards, since I had those on hand and they were a little more "springy" than the ones that came with the router.
I thought the set up to trim only .007 from each side of the tongues would be a real pain in the butt. In fact it was pretty easy. I had two different setups - as the front/back of the flooring was different. The table fence settings are for reference only... not precise. The fence locking is secure. The featherboard and aluminum t-slot is well done, and secure. The fence width adjustment is also secure and easy.
The table top is laminate, the rest is plastic, with a few steel parts (the router mount and clamp), and aluminum t-slots.
This was the least expensive table I could find that had t-slots and not just "straight slots".
In the past, when I was in my 20's, I used all sorts of commercial grade power tools professionally in a mill shop. This table is not up to that grade, but its just fine for the guy who wants to build some cabinets with drawers, trim some flooring (like I did) or any other similar project.
Trying to think outside the box, but I know a handyman who might like to keep something like this on his van when doing crown molding or chair rail or flooring. Its small and light, so that might make it interesting for that use too.
I had previously purchased the Skil combo router model 1830. I wanted to find a router table for it and looked at first to Skil. I saw the RAS800 and RAS900 but did not see any documentation that indicated the model 1830 was compatible with either table. I looked on the internet and found conflicting data, so I called Skil and they informed me that the 1830 is supported with the RAS 900. I ordered the RAS 900 and followed all directions to attach 'base' router version of the 1830. Everything works fine. I really love the table and for my hobbiest woodcrafts, I find the router and table are a perfect match. The table is very functional with many key features like the fence guard and the various measuring devices included with it. I decided to put a wood frame under the perimeter of the table, to allow screwing of the four leg positions to this frame, and this added rigidity to the table operation without taking away the portability. Skil makes some great tools and this table along with the router is a fine example. thanks.
