Amazon.com Review
There's no tool like a router for edging, trimming or cutting. Skil's new 2-horsepower fixed-base router can perform all the functions needed in a home workshop or on the job site while drawing only 10 amps at full RPM. The 1/4-inch quick-change collet accepts a wide range of bits and cutters. The Skil 1815's Micro-Fine Depth Adjustment makes bit depth adjustments fast, easy and accurate while the soft-grip handles are ergonomically designed for comfort and ease of use. The wide base opening allows for quick and easy bit changes plus the Built-in Work Light illuminates a pattern or an outline to insure more accurate cuts. Accepts Skil's 91018 18-Piece Carbide Router Bit Set as well as most other brands of 1/4-inch bits.
Ideal for woodworkers, carpenters and cabinet makers. --C. Dwight Barnett
Applications: Use the Skil 1815 for making cabinets or shelves, decorative inlay work, manufacturing wood trim for cabinets, rooms, doors or windows, mortising hinge plates or inlays, dovetailing cabinet drawers, edging countertops

Customer Reviews
This router works very well, plenty of power. The only issue is that once you set the depth and start a route, the bit will lower about 1/16". So I just keep a piece of scrap around to test the route depth before I start my work. I have never had a problem doing it this way.
is the best way to describe this router. I purchased it to use with the Skil RAS900 Router Table. I figured I would buy a Skil router for a Skil table. Good idea but didn't work out so well. As far as fitting the table, being able to install and change bits in the router table? Great. The router is kind of bulky but Skil's table works well with it. The problem is setting bit heights. BIG Problem. The reason is that the height adjustment on this router is a very poorly designed mechanism. It is flimsy. poorly designed and it often slips thereby making you re-adjust the router base to the router. You see the router uses a clamp lever that squeezes the router base to the router via pushing a pewter plug about 3/16" square into a depression on the router's plastic case. This plug makes a very poor friction grip and allows the clamp to slide. There is a tension adjustment but it doesn't help a lot. When using the router without a table the height adjustment works great. When in the table it doesn't work so well. I would hope Skil would try to operate their routers in their tables sometime. I use a router so infrequently in a table I cannot justify buying a Bosch. I would not recommend this router for table use, but as a standalone it isn't bad when you add a speed control.
