Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
The Freud DifferenceFreud manufactures some of the most innovative, technologically advanced saw blades in the world. To ensure that the highest quality products meet the toughest design standards, Freud owns and operates six manufacturing facilities in Western Europe. Freud is one of the few manufacturers of woodworking tools in the world that produces its own MicroGrain carbide with titanium, called TiCo -- a combination of titanium and cobalt. Freud develops different types of carbide for each application to maximize the cutting life and performance of the tool; and Freud also operates one of the most modern product development research centers in Europe. By overseeing the entire manufacturing process from start to finish, Freud guarantees some of the highest quality, most advanced products in the industry.
About Freud's Industrial BitsSerious woodworkers choose serious accessories. They choose Freud. The Freud name equals quality, precision and craftsmanship. Freud router bits feature TiCo Hi-Density Carbide for maximum cutting life and are individually balanced; providing a cut above the rest. When you’re looking for a serious router bit, look for Freud red.

About the 13-Piece Super Router Bit SetFreud's 1/2-inch shank super router bit set features a whole host of high-end extras and fine details, including long-lasting MicroGrain carbide/titanium tips, tri-metal brazing, and an anti-kickback design. Each Freud bit is computer-balanced to run vibration and chatter-free at speeds well in excess of the typical 22,000 rpm of most routers. These bits have a high shear angle that produces less tear-out and chatter marks, leaving a cross-grained cut that requires little or no sanding. Multi-axis grinding helps ensure the proper relief angle on cutting edges regardless of how the bit is oriented. The kit includes a variety of useful bits most frequently used by woodworkers, including "V" grooving, flush trimming, chamfering, and dovetailing bits. All bits come with 1/2-inch shank and Freud's unique shadow box case for maximum bit protection.
ApplicationsThese bits cut all composition materials, plywoods, hardwoods, and softwoods. They're designed for use on hand-held and table-mounted portable routers.
WarrantyThese bits are covered by Freud's limited lifetime warranty.
Amazon.com Review
Are expensive router bits worth the cost? After testing Freud's 1/2-inch shank set, we think the answer is yes. The features found in these Freud bits--long-lasting micrograin carbide/titanium tips, tri-metal brazing, and an antikickback design--make them a better choice than less-expensive options. Customer Reviews

This is an excellent starter set for any woodworker. Once you use 1/2" shank bits , you'll never want to buy a bit with a 1/4 inch shank again. They really do cut smoother. The carbide is a little harder than the average bit. It will stay sharp a little longer than many other carbide bits . I find them very good with most hardwoods. They chip a little faster than some if you hit a misplaced brad nail or other hard object. Some will just keep on going. Not a Freud. This shouldn't be a problem most of the time. Freud was ranked in the top 5 in a fine woodworking bit test. It was far ahead of all other brands available at Amazon.com though. Jesada was ranked last out of 17 brands. I would stick with the Freud set. They are very good and reasonably priced to boot.

These bits are great, very sharp and high quality, makes your router feel almost like a totaly diffrent tool. The set comes with 3 stright cutting bits, a ogee, roundover, cove, chamfer, flush trimming, v grooving, round nose, dove tail, rabbiting, and a mortsing bit. these bits should last a while.

Customer Reviews

This is a good little router with a powerful motor and really simple and reliable controls. It is not unusual for bits to stick in a new router. I had the same problem with my Porter Cable 310, another excellent router. My cousin, a tool and die maker, told me to just tap the bit or collet nut lightly with a large drill bit and the bit should rattle out. He was right. Unfortunately, I had ruined several expensive bits before this using vice grips and pliers. It is not necessary. Now that I have used the PC 310 for over a year, the bits are not as hard to get out. This is a common problem with the small routers, so don't diss an individual brand when this happens. I hope this post saves others some similar trouble!

First the good: This is a decent router for the small applications that make use of 1/4" bits. I successfully used it to make fluted pilasters and dadoes for a bookshelf project. As you would expect from a small router, you can't push it too fast or remove too much material at a time, but its easy maneuverability makes up for those shortcomings. The depth adjustment works well and it allowed me to dial in accurate depth settings.
Now the bad: As another reviewer noted, the bits cannot be removed without resorting to vice grips. This has been the case for me with four different bits, made by different manufacturers. Safety concerns aside, this has the potential to wreck your bits and your router, since the motor really isn't designed to withstand the prying forces on the shaft.
Another negative is that the router just comes in a cardboard box; no hard plastic case is included. This surprised because I own several other DeWalt tools and they all have nice cases with metal latches. Some (like their palm sander) were even cheaper than this router and they still came with a case. Not a big issue but I prefer to keep power tools stowed neatly away.

Customer Reviews

This router works very well, plenty of power. The only issue is that once you set the depth and start a route, the bit will lower about 1/16". So I just keep a piece of scrap around to test the route depth before I start my work. I have never had a problem doing it this way.

is the best way to describe this router. I purchased it to use with the Skil RAS900 Router Table. I figured I would buy a Skil router for a Skil table. Good idea but didn't work out so well. As far as fitting the table, being able to install and change bits in the router table? Great. The router is kind of bulky but Skil's table works well with it. The problem is setting bit heights. BIG Problem. The reason is that the height adjustment on this router is a very poorly designed mechanism. It is flimsy. poorly designed and it often slips thereby making you re-adjust the router base to the router. You see the router uses a clamp lever that squeezes the router base to the router via pushing a pewter plug about 3/16" square into a depression on the router's plastic case. This plug makes a very poor friction grip and allows the clamp to slide. There is a tension adjustment but it doesn't help a lot. When using the router without a table the height adjustment works great. When in the table it doesn't work so well. I would hope Skil would try to operate their routers in their tables sometime. I use a router so infrequently in a table I cannot justify buying a Bosch. I would not recommend this router for table use, but as a standalone it isn't bad when you add a speed control.

DEWALT DNP615 Compact Router Dust Collection Adapter for Fixed Base Routers

Customer Reviews

When I bought my DeWalt DWP611PK router (which I love), I didn't order any of the accessories for it.
But, after such positive experiences with the router itself, I decided to give the accessories a shot as well.
DeWalt offers four accessories for the DWP611PK ... edge guides for both the fixed base and plunge base, as well as dust collection adapters for both.
I haven't had enough opportunity to use the edge guides (DNP618 for the fixed base, DW6913 for the plunge base) to give them a fair review, but I have had enough use of the dust collection accessories to comment on them.
I have never been very impressed with dust collection accessories for hand-held routers ... dust collection attachments for my other routers were clumsy to use, obstructed the view of the work surface, required tools to attach/detach, and generally resulted in quite a bit of dust and debris in the air and around the work area.
By contract, these both do a superb job. They are easy to attach/detach (using easy to manage thumb screws), take standard 1.25" hoses, and are clear plastic so they don't obstruct your view. And they do a terrific job of removing debris from the surface you are routing without cluttering the work area.
I did a bunch of template routing last week (routing tracks for tambours on some cabinets I am building for holiday gifts) with the plunge base. The DNP616 fully encloses the area around the bit inside the plunge base, and despite plowing through a bunch of hard maple, no dust made it to the bench and the work surface remained clear.
I had a similar experience with the DNP615 in the fixed base routing rabbets inside a door frame. The dust collection attachment essentially turns the router base into a closed chamber so there is virtually no place for dust to escape.
Gord Graff did an excellent review of the DeWalt DWP611PK (see: [...] )... suggest you check out Gord's review for more info on the router itself.

the title says it all. this covers the only open part of the router, the part you would normally look into to see what you're doing. The clear sub base is great for the router, and even though this is clear, the thick plastic distorts what you are seeing. Still, it's worth the 7 bucks for when you'll use it for making dados with an edge guide. What sucks though is that if you're routing the end of a piece of wood for round overs and what not, most of the dust goes under the router, making this thing only being able to capture 20 percent of the dust. To be fair, I don't know of any built in dust collectors that would help with this. Bottom line, it's definitely worth the 7 bucks. And if you own the plunge base DEFINITELY get the plunge dust collection adapter, it doesn't impede your vision hardly at all, and it collects almost all of the dust that would normally be flying into the air.

Customer Reviews

I purchased the Sign Pro to help my son make a trail sign for his Eagle Scout project. It took a little practice to get the letters cut right.
I broke one letter on my second try. This is because I did not have the chase tight enough and a letter came loose. They will pop out if you are not careful.
(The chase is the frame that holds the letters.)
If you want to do a lot of signs, I recommend that you order an extra letter kit. They supply two letters each with the original kit.
You are also limited to letter size. You can only do 2 1/2" and 1 1/2" letters.
You can do bigger letters with the Panagraph MilesCraft sells. You can also do graphics with it also.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I also recommend that you make short chases of letters instead of making a long chase of letters. It's easier to handle and you are less likly to make an mistake.
Be sure to use other letters as spacers between your words. Turn them around backwards so you won't cut them by mistake and mess up your sign.
Over all, I recommend the Sign Pro. It did a good job on our sign.
Gary M. Wilcox, Summersville, WV

Absolute trash. I am a professional wood worker and this is as close to garbage as I have seen in a long time. The letters flip out as they are not held in by much. The clamps that hold it to the work piece slide all over the place. I Had to screw the jig to my work which left unwanted holes in it. If you use the 36" setup the rails flex to much in the center. I would not buy this again. it is truly trash.

Customer Reviews

I've had several M12V routers and none were better for router table work Apparently Hitachi had a better idea and discontinued manufacturing and replaced it with the M12VE, whereby ruining the collet arrangement. The M12V used a double wrench system without having to use a self extracting collet. Very easy to use and fast. The new system uses a self extracting type collet but fails to supply the correct collet with the router. The supplied collet is lose from it's holder and ground under size. It is nearly impossible to get standard 1/2" tools into the collet. Once they are in and tightened down the collet jams into the receiver and will not come lose because of the chozen taper. That is why the need for a self extracting collet which requires one to loosen the nut while holding a lock pin, then to unscrew the holder several turns at which point the wrench must be used again to extract the collet from the holder. If this is a bit techy for you, just bare in mind it is no longer user friendly.

Very good router. Great power, I have been making raised panels and was using a small router (1-3/4 HP) with a 3-1/2" raised panel bit with under-cutter. The small router and the big bit are not a good combination so I started looking around for a larger router and found the Hitachi M12VE. This is a new model and is based on the old M12V, it is not like the Hitachi routers that people say looked like a tennis shoe or space ship. After shopping around for the best price I found one for $196.99 at ToolBarn.com and ordered it December 2010. I have been using it in my router table making more raised panels and it has been great. It has a variable speed adjustment knob that is easily accessible which is needed when to get the RPM down to 10'000 or 12,000 RPM when running the large diameter bit. There is no bogging down and stopping like my other router would do. I was also very surprised at how quiet it is.
There are nice features like 3 position adjustable handle knobs, a slide on-off switch, it is a plunge router, comes with a carry case, and more. It also has a 5-year warranty.
This is a very good router.

Customer Reviews

This is a well designed and very useful edge guide sold at a reasonable price. It even has a place for screw storage when not in use. It is much more compact than the DeWalt DW6913 Router Edge Guide with Fine Adjustment and Vacuum Adaptor. I prefer the separate vacuum adaptors, one for each base. Also, it does work with both the fixed and plunge bases. One small fault is that the scales, imperial and metric, do not have any number markings on them.

For what it costs, it works great. However, I did notice a design flaw and an inconvenient omission from the design. The omission is there are no number markings on the ruler. The design flaw is that the indents for the screw holes that make the screws come flush with the guide are on the wrong side. It doesn't really effect the performance though, it's just that if they overlooked this, then I have to wonder what else they overlooked.
